Galaxy take lead in 2008 SuperClasico

The Galaxy took a big lead this weekend in the 2008 SuperClasico with a huge 5-2 victory over Chivas USA. Landon Donovan continued his hot scoring streak which now has him on top of the MLS scoring list with 8 goals in 5 games. Donovan is on pace to break the single season scoring title, but of course the season is way too early to start thinking about anything like that.

The game started out back and forth with Chivas answering each of the first 2 Galaxy goals. But then in the last half hour the Galaxy put 3 unanswered goal past Chivas keeper Brad Guzan. Donovan hit a hat trick and Alan Gordon actually got a couple of goals.

This victory takes the Galaxy up to 2nd place in the West witha 2-2-1 (7 pts) record. Overall in the league the Galaxy are tied for 7th/8th position with the New York Red Bulls who are in 6th place in the east. All the points right now are in the east it seems.

First SuperClasico of 2008 Tonight

The first meeting of the year between the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA takes place tonight at the home stadium of both teams – the Home Depot Center. Landon Donovan and David Beckham have been a good duo over the past couple weeks. Chivas USA coach Preki asked “Can’t the league suspend them for this weekend?” in response to being asked how to stop Donovan and Beckham.
