2009 Schedule Announced

The full 2009 LA Galaxy regular season schedule was announced yesterday.

Things have been quiet around here the past couple of months but things should pick up as the new season approaches. What will this year have in store for the Galaxy. Currently Landon Donovan and David Beckham are doing well in Europe.

If you haven’t seen anything of Beckham at AC Milan check out his latest goal for the Italian team.

Beckahm wins ESPY for best in MLS

For the 3rd straight year a member of the LA Galaxy takes home the ESPY for best in Major League Soccer. Landon Donovan has won the award the past two year – but it is Beckham that takes the award home with him this year.

In 15 games this year Beckham has 5 goals and 7 assists which has helped them to their current position in 2nd place in the west.

Buddle added to All Star roster

After the first XI were announced coach Nicol got to hand pick 5 extra players and the commissioner of the league also got to pick 2. Don Garber (MLS commissioner) added Edson Buddle to the All Star roster. Dwayne De Rosario was his other pick.

Buddle joins Beckham and Donovan on the team that will face West Ham!

Galaxy dominating player of the week awards

Landon Donovan was awarded the Player of the week award this past week for the third time this season. Combined with the 2 times David Beckham won the award, and the two times Edson Buddle has got the player of the week title, the Galaxy have won the award more times than they have not won it. 7 weeks out of 13 they’ve got the player of the week.

The good form of Beckham, Buddle and Donovan has helped the Galaxy reach the top of the western conference with a 6-4-3 record.

Galaxy fail to qualify for US Open Cup

>???????? ????? ????????LA Galaxy failed to qualify for the US Open Cup in a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids last night.  The Galaxy had to play without Donovan and Beckham who are both on international duty and could face each other tonight when the US plays England at Wembly.

Carlos Ruiz was back in the Galaxy lineup for the game but just couldn’t get the one needed goal.  The Galaxy created many good scoring chances and hit the woodwork more than once.  In the end it was a Conor Casey goal that made the difference.

The Rapids still have to win one more game in order to qualify for the US Open Cup.  They have to play in Kansas City – the winner is in while the loser is out.

Galaxy are tops in West

The past 2 weeks have seen the Galaxy outscore their opponents by a combined score of 8-2.  First it was the 5-1 thrashing of FC Dallas and this past weekend a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Wizards.  Not only are Donovan and Beckham getting the goals, but Edson Buddle has stepped up and notched 4 goals in the past 2 games.

This bring the Galaxy up to 14 points which is good enough right now to put them on top of the Western Conference.  Although they are on top of the west their 14 points is only enough to put them in a tie for 4th/5th place overall in the league.  The Eastern conference seems to be the tougher conference at the beginning of the year.

Beckham and Donovan become opponents

When the United States faces England at Wembly Stadium on May 28th the Galaxy strike force of Beckham and Donovan could become opponents.  Donovan was one of only 3 MLS players selected to the US squad for this match.  Beckham could be making his 101st appearance for England that night versus the US.

What would the Galaxy do without these 2 in the starting lineup?

Whitecaps top Galaxy

The rematch with the Vancouver Whitecaps ended in favor of the Whitecaps by a 2-1 score.  I didn’t get to see the game as most of us probably didn’t, but reports say that the Whitecaps controlled most of the game?????? and were dominant in the first half.

The game was played in Edmonton and not the home of the Whitecaps, Vancouver.  A Majority of the fans there were cheering for the Galaxy, but that didn’t bother the Whitecaps.  After the game why would have it bothered them, they won.

Beckham set up Alan Gordon for the Galaxy’s only goal.

Galaxy vs Vancouver Whitecaps tonight

The Galaxy are on the road – in western Canada tonight. LA Galaxy versus the Vancouver Whitecaps tonight in Edmonton. The game a rematch of the friendly last year that Beckham missed due to injury.

How many Galaxy fans will make the trip all the way up to Edmonton for this game? How many Galaxy fans are already in Edmonton? How many people will be there just to see Golden Balls?

The game will take place a 6:00PM PT @ Commonwealth Stadium.
