The past 2 weeks have seen the Galaxy outscore their opponents by a combined score of 8-2. First it was the 5-1 thrashing of FC Dallas and this past weekend a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Wizards. Not only are Donovan and Beckham getting the goals, but Edson Buddle has stepped up and notched 4 goals in the past 2 games.
This bring the Galaxy up to 14 points which is good enough right now to put them on top of the Western Conference. Although they are on top of the west their 14 points is only enough to put them in a tie for 4th/5th place overall in the league. The Eastern conference seems to be the tougher conference at the beginning of the year.

Qualifying for the US Open Cup will get underway for the Galaxy on May 27th at the Home Depot Center. Due to the poor finish in the league last year the Galaxy have to win their way into the US Open Cup, and it isn’t just a single win, they’ll need two wins.
The qualifying will start on May 27th at home when the Colorado Rapids come to town. The winner of that game must travel to Kansas City to earn their way into the Open Cup.
Last year the Galaxy qualified for the tournament but lost their first game vs USL second division club Richmond Kickers.

The Galaxy downed Toronto FC last night at the Home Deopt Center to keep their win streak and playoff hopes alive. With 2 wins they will play in the post season. A loss in either of their remaining games will end their season. This is the current standings:
Chicago Fire 37 (1) [40]
Kansas City Wizards 37 (1) [40]
Columbus Crew 34 (1) [37]
LA Galaxy 33 (2) [39]
Colorado 32 (2) [38]
The last bracket is the maximum points for the team if they finish their season with nothing but wins. The only thing that keeps the Galaxy alive is the fact that they play Chicago on the last day of the regular season.
Galaxy Remaining Schedule:
Thursday Oct 18: New York Red Bulls
Sunday Oct 21: @ Chicago Fire

It only took the Galaxy one shot on goal to take 3 points towards a late run to the playoffs. The Kansas City Wizards finished the game tonite at Arrowhead Stadium with only 9 players after two red cards both for hard tackles on Peter Vagenas. Gavin Glinton scored a header from close range in the 80th minute and the Galaxy got their first road win all year.

Cobi Jones played the part of super-sub quite well on Saturday. Jones came off the bench for Edson Buddle after the Galaxy gave up 2 quick goal at the start of the 2nd half vs the Kansas City Wizards.
Off the bench Jones scored 2 goals to tie the game and nearly completed a hat trick to give the Galaxy a lead. The game ended 2-2, making this the first time this year the Galaxy did not follow a win with a loss.
This was Jone’s first 2 goal game in 5 years. Cobi is retiring after this season.
The Galaxy are not done with regular season MLS games as they prepare for the very first SuperLiga.
