We really need some more Galaxy rumors. Yesterday they were scheduling friendly games on the other side of the world during the MLS playoffs. Today their supposed opponents deny those reports.
Figo will be playing for the Galaxy soon. No – it was Zidane. Errrr – wait, it was Ronaldo, or was it Wayne Rooney?
Pele is going to come out of retirement to replace Steve Cronin in goal for the rest of the season.
The Galaxy are going to play half of their home games next season in Montata because they don’t want to be so close to Chivas anymore.
Alexi Lalas is an alien.
What did I miss?
The first meeting of the year between the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA takes place tonight at the home stadium of both teams – the Home Depot Center. Landon Donovan and David Beckham have been a good duo over the past couple weeks. Chivas USA coach Preki asked “Can’t the league suspend them for this weekend?” in response to being asked how to stop Donovan and Beckham.
vs
Chivas USA 1-2-1 4pts (10th-T)
LA Galaxy 1-2-1 4pts (10th-T)
7:30 PM (PST) – Fox Soccer Channel
This will be the 14th SuperClasico. The previous matches have seen the Galaxy take 8 victories, Chivas USA have 3 victories and the game has ended in a draw twice. Both teams are off to a slow start this season.
Any predictions?
The official 2008 LA Galaxy schedule has been release and can be found right here.
This is a copy of the official schedule from MLSNet.com. It does not have some other games that are rumored to be added to the schedule. One such game that has heard a lot of rumors recently is a friendly vs. Greek side AEK Athens to be played in Seattle on May 26th.
As more information becomes available on these extra games that are not on the official schedule yet I’ll add them to the schedule here.
This weekend the Galaxy played another friendly game vs the Minnesota Thunder in the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The game ended a 1-1 draw which the Galaxy went on to win in a shoot out.
I don’t understand the reasoning behind having PKs to decide a friendly game. I guess to please the typical American sports fan who can’t comprehend the idea of neither team deserving to win or lose.

Yesterday the LA Galaxy beat Hollywood United in a charity match that raised over $100,000 for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Edson Buddle hit a hat trick while David Beckham, Chris Klein and Mike Caso each scored 2 goals in a 12 – 4 victory.
The Galaxy will be heading up to Vancouver for a friendly with the Vancouver Whitecaps of USL.
Since the Galaxy last to Chicago last weekend it freed up their November schedule to add some more friendlies.
A week from today the Galaxy will host Hollywood United in a charity match that will benefit the American Red Cross and Salvation Army to help victims of the recent wildfires in California.
Check out the official (I think) Hollywood United website to see what the Galaxy will be up against.
It is for a good cause and tickets are only $20 so go get your tickets now.
The Major League Soccer Playoffs start tomorrow without the Galaxy. A last day of the season loss to the Chicago Fire ended a great run at the end of the season but it was not meant to be. Next year could be a very different story. Maybe this end of the year run was just a preview of what the whole season will be like next year?!?!
We’ll keep watching to see what happens for the Galaxy in the off season.
The Galaxy downed Toronto FC last night at the Home Deopt Center to keep their win streak and playoff hopes alive. With 2 wins they will play in the post season. A loss in either of their remaining games will end their season. This is the current standings:
Chicago Fire 37 (1) [40]
Kansas City Wizards 37 (1) [40]
Columbus Crew 34 (1) [37]
LA Galaxy 33 (2) [39]
Colorado 32 (2) [38]
The last bracket is the maximum points for the team if they finish their season with nothing but wins. The only thing that keeps the Galaxy alive is the fact that they play Chicago on the last day of the regular season.
Galaxy Remaining Schedule:
Thursday Oct 18: New York Red Bulls
Sunday Oct 21: @ Chicago Fire
The Galaxy are still hoping for a playoff spot. If I had told you this a month ago you would have called me absolutely crazy. All they have done is pulled off 4 victories in a row and positioned themselves to make a run at the playoffs. They might not have a great chance, but they have a chance. This is the Galaxy remaining schedule:
Toronto FC
New York Red Bulls
@ Chicago Fire
Currently the Fire are in the 8th (last playoff spot) place. If the Galaxy get 6 points against Toronto and New York it could potentially set up a last game of the season that would see the winner go on to the playoffs and the loser sitting at home.
They have to start Saturday nite with a victory over TFC – on the Fox Soccer Channel @ 9:30pm CST.
