Galaxy fail to qualify for US Open Cup

>???????? ????? ????????LA Galaxy failed to qualify for the US Open Cup in a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids last night.  The Galaxy had to play without Donovan and Beckham who are both on international duty and could face each other tonight when the US plays England at Wembly.

Carlos Ruiz was back in the Galaxy lineup for the game but just couldn’t get the one needed goal.  The Galaxy created many good scoring chances and hit the woodwork more than once.  In the end it was a Conor Casey goal that made the difference.

The Rapids still have to win one more game in order to qualify for the US Open Cup.  They have to play in Kansas City – the winner is in while the loser is out.

Road to the US Open Cup

Qualifying for the US Open Cup will get underway for the Galaxy on May 27th at the Home Depot Center. Due to the poor finish in the league last year the Galaxy have to win their way into the US Open Cup, and it isn’t just a single win, they’ll need two wins.

The qualifying will start on May 27th at home when the Colorado Rapids come to town. The winner of that game must travel to Kansas City to earn their way into the Open Cup.

Last year the Galaxy qualified for the tournament but lost their first game vs USL second division club Richmond Kickers.

Richmond Kickers End US Open Cup For Galaxy

David Bulow scored the only goal of the game in tonite’s US Open Cup round of 16 game.  The Richmond Kickers will move on to play the winner of the Chicago Fire/Carolina RailHawks game that will take place later this week.
